What treasures are collecting dust in your closet?

It all started with bedsheets. This seemed like a no-brainer after finding a "Pro Tip" stating: Use old bed sheets (linens if you are fancy) when creating a muslin.
A muslin is untreated, inexpensive cotton. So it makes sense to re-use old bedding to practice creating a dress, pants, or skirt before using the good stuff. I often find myself using these old linens for my final garment. But if they are donning fairies or race cars, they are designated as practice sheets!

Using unconventional fabrics allowed me to think outside the box. If I can make pillowcases into an outfit, what can I make from my husband's ties or the kid's old jeans? of course, the upcycling movement flamed my fire which I am a HUGE fan.
Don't get me wrong, I am a total sucker for the beautiful, crisp fabric in the fabric stores. But if it doesn't serve an immediate purpose, I use all efforts of restraint.
So many beautiful pieces have come from using what I have around the house. I encourage you to check out your linen closet before rushing to the fabric store for your next project!
Fabscrap bags are a great way to explore color theory and design while using old scraps of clothing/fabric/linens in your home.
