The holiday season is perfect for showcasing your sewing skills by creating thoughtful, handmade gifts and decorations. Here are some creative ideas to inspire your holiday sewing projects.
1. Holiday Stockings
By A Thread Studio hosted a Sip & Sew project last year in which we made stockings. I loved it so much, that I decided to update our family's holiday stockings Sip & Sew style. I bribed them with pizza and cookies but we ended up having a really good time! Choose fabrics that reflect their personality or interests, and add names using applique or embroidery techniques for a special touch. You can download the pattern below
2. Fabric Gift Bags
This is one of my favorites. Because I was not blessed with good gift-giving skills, I need to really elevate the wrap job. What better way than to make a gift look perfect by replacing traditional wrapping paper with reusable fabric gift bags? These eco-friendly alternatives can be made from festive fabrics and closed with ribbons or fabric They add a special touch to any gift and can be reused for years to come. One yard of fabric will yield roughly 8 bags.
3. Decorative Pillow Covers
Create decorative pillow covers to update your living space for the holidays. Choose fabrics with holiday motifs or colors and add embellishments like buttons, ribbons, or sequins. Pillow covers are easy to swap out and store for seasonal decor. To avoid adding zippers, stitch 3 sides of your pillow leaving the 4th side open to stuff in the pillow. Hand-sew your pillowcase closed.
